Ok, I’m not going to teach you how to play piano via blog post. That sounds much more challenging than learning piano needs to be! Playing piano can have a steep learning curve, especially when you incorporate learning to read music into the lessons.
Is your child wishing she could play piano, but having trouble connecting the notes on the page to the keys in front of her? Is your son picking out tunes by ear more quickly than he is able to read notes on the staff? Are you trying to learn as an adult and struggling because it seems 10 times harder to learn things when you have passed out of your 20s? What is a beginner to do?
I wanted to share these cool piano stickers that are useful for anyone learning to read music and play piano. Where were these things when I was a kid? I remember being able to find the notes/keys in the octave above and below middle C just fine, but once moving out of the familiar middle range or adding ledger lines to written notes, I started to struggle. If the keyboard had been covered with these stickers, particularly as a visual learner, I am confident I would have learned the note placements much more quickly.
There are a few companies with similar products out there, so have a look through and see which stickers match your aesthetic desires. The stickers I linked above are supposed to come with a downloadable Ebook to help you get started. Also note, piano stickers typically cover four octaves on the piano (where you will do most of your playing as a beginner anyway), not all 88 keys.
If you would like more color on your keys or feel like different colors would help you find the notes more quickly, check out this colorful set of piano stickers. Happy practicing!
